I heard about this Carnivore diet a while back when Mikhaela Peterson talked about it in a TEDx talk. It sounded really amazing but I didn’t think it applied to me at the time. But sometime early this year it clicked and I started doing some research. Then I decided to give it a try as an experiment. Wow is the only word I can say.

My Story Before The Carnivore Diet
For at least the last 10 years I’ve suffered with chronic pain in some form or another. It seem to float between my back to my leg to my ankle. Mostly on the right side but then it would sometimes switch to the left side. I given up practicing martial arts or working out because it would cause the pain to get worse.
If I took life easy I could manage it during the day and function but if I tried to do anything crazy I suffered for weeks. At its worse I felt like I had a knife in my leg and could hardly walk.
I could not play with my son like I wanted to and in order to get sleep at night I had to take ibuprofen.
Of course I tried to get help. One doctor wanted to give me a shot in my spine. That seem crazy to me so I went to another doctor who said I had a pinch nerve. He gave me some exercises to try and that did help with the worse of it.
But the dull aching pain never went away and if I tried to workout or something it all came back. Another Doctor gave me pills and I never got a refill because they did not seem to do anything. After a while I figured pain was normal for me.

Trying Intermittent Fasting
At some point I discovered intermittent fasting and I noticed that helped with the pain a lot. I thought it was interesting but I was not sure why. I lost a little weight too but it was hard for me to maintain this life style. I’d have a bad night of sleep and I could hardly function at work then it would all fall apart. Then I’d have to start all over.
The funny thing is on the carnivore diet I don’t have crazy cravings for food so intermittent fasting just kind of happens sometimes without me trying. I just eat when I’m hungry.
What Happen After Carnivore
In February I decided to go all in on the Carnivore diet. I figured I’d give it a week or 2 and see what happened. Sometime in that time period I realized my pain was gone. I felt really good! Better then I had in years! I also was able to go to sleep without ibuprofen! On top of that I slept the whole night without waking up any!
So I kept going with the diet past the 2 weeks and I kept feeling really good. I also started losing weight light crazy. For a while I was losing a pound every 2 days or so and I was not even trying. At this point I’m down 23lbs from my heaviest.
I don’t feel hungry because I could eat as much meat as I wanted to and I have more energy. Before I remember I was so tired all the time. Maybe because I didn’t sleep good. Now I felt like a new person.
I even played soccer with my son and I remember thinking this would have wrecked me a few months ago.
I can’t explain it. Maybe I’m allergic to something I was eating? I don’t know. But I do know I feel a lot better now.
Cheating
When I started paying attention I realized everywhere you turn there is unhealthy foods full of sugar and chemicals. Its crazy how normal it is to eat that stuff and It can be hard to avoid.
I admit I have cheated a few times over a weekend because I wanted to eat with my family for someones birthday or something like that. I’m not even kidding I can tell a difference. I start to feel sore, achy, and not that good. I also feel like I start to crave that junk if I cheat a little. I think it would be very easy to slide back into old habits. They say sugar is addictive and I believe it now.
But I might try to introduce one thing here and there over time to see what happens. This is an on going experiment for me and it would be nice to have more options when with the family or traveling.
Health Risk?
When I tell people about this and how amazing I feel they often tell me its not healthy. But you know they never seem to care when I was stuffing my face with donuts, drinking tons of soda, and felt like crap. Its hard for me to believe it can be worse then the standard american diet when I feel this good.
Another common thing I get is its bad for my kidneys. I did some research on that and that seems like a myth from what I can tell. There are groups of people in history that lived on only meat and were fine.
My new rule is I don’t take health advice from people who are less healthy then me.
Health Benifits of the Carnivore Diet
Not only is carnivore not bad for you. But it seems to have a lot of health benefits. Or maybe its the cutting out of junk that allows your body to heal? Check out what it has done for others!

What about Supplements?
The best part about eating natural is you don’t need to worry about supplements. But when your body is adjusting you might need some help. Dr. Berry suggested Keto Chow Electrolyte Hydration Drops for electrolytes, and J.CROW’S Lugol’s Solution of Iodine 2%. Because most of us are already iodine deficient.
If you want some good salt then it looks like most people in the carnivore community like Redmond Real Salt.
We Been Lied To
I feel like my whole life I’ve been lied to about nutrition and i’m glad I know the truth now.
But don’t take my word for it. Here are 3 medical doctors for you to check out. See what they say and try out the carnivore diet for yourself!
