2020 has been a crazy year and most of the things I planned have not worked out. On top of that now I am working at a new place. I never expected I’d be in a new job but here I am. But when an opportunity for more pay and a shorter drive falls in your lap it would be crazy not to look into it.

How It Happen
Over the summer a friend that also works in IT told me that his co-worker was leaving and that there would be a job opening soon. He said it was the kind of work I did just for fun and asked if I’d be interested. I told him sure it was worth checking out and it was also a lot closer to home.
But nothing happened after that so I kind of shrugged it off. I guess because of COVID things were slow. But eventually, the job was posted and my friend asked me to apply so I did. After that, I didn’t hear back from the company for a few weeks. I assumed they did not like my resume and I once again shrugged it off. Then they called me for an interview.
This was the first interview I’ve done in 13 years so I was nervous. But I had my family pray with me about it and I decided I was just going to go in and be myself. If they did not like that it was fine because I already had a good job.
Well it turns out they liked me I guess because I got a job offer and they offered me more pay then I asked for.
2 weeks notice
Turning in my notice at my old job was one of the hardest things I’ve done. I had knots in my stomach over it. I’ve been there 13 years and my co-workers felt like family. Everyone was in shock and sad to see me leave. I still wonder if I made the right choice sometimes. They gave me a card and some gave me little gifts. They also told me the door was always open for me to come back so that made me feel good.
A new job is a big change
So far I’ve been in learning mode. Learning all of a big company’s systems is going to take a while. This new company is also a lot tighter on security. So I still do not have access to a lot of things and probably never will have access to everything. While at my old job I had access to everything and free reign. So that will take some getting used to.
But so far I like working there.
Future of Sysjolt
This brings me to the topic of this site. I may be slowing down on new post for a while. By the time I get off work my brain is fried from information overload haha. But in the long term I may have even more to post and share as I learn because this IT job is in a different part of IT. I can’t share details about the job because of a confidentiality agreement. But I can still post tech information and tutorials as I learn new things.
I hope you stick around as I make this transition in my life and as always thanks for reading!
Sounds like you have a good friend!
