I’ve always felt like games run better on Linux than Windows. They just seem more responsive a lot of times. Now we have a good test case with the Lenovo Legion Go S. The very same hardware Running windows 11 or SteamOS
SteamOS vs Windows 11 Benchmark
I found this article over at Ars called Games run faster on SteamOS than Windows 11. They do some testing and show that SteamOS a Linux distro runs faster in most cases than Windows 11. SteamOS even has a built in disadvantage because often times it has to use a Proton translation layer adding extra processing steps to turn Windows API calls into things Linux can understand and run. That is how Windows software can run on Linux.

I kind of wish we could get the same kind of test with Windows 10 or Windows 7 because I think the older versions of windows might do better. But Windows 11 is so full of bloat I’m not surprised.
Addressing the Steam Deck hate.
I love my Steam Deck even more now. Always have loved it. But I’ve seen a lot of hate lately. Specifically from Nintendo fans comparing it to the Switch 2. I care about more than just gaming. So all I can say is good luck using your Switch 2 as a computer or doing anything custom on it. And when the switch 2 is no longer supported and abandoned by Nintendo, as all consoles end up, I bet the steam deck will still be going.
