Ventoy – Easy Bootable USB Drives

I found this open source tool called Ventoy the other day when I was trying to figure out how burn a Hiren’s BootCD IOS to a USB drive. On Windows I have always used Rufus and on Linux I used the DD command. But Hiren is made with Windows PE and making a Windows boot USB from Linux has always given me a hard time.

That’s when I ran across Ventoy. It has a simple app that installs it to a USB drive then you just plug the USB drive into your computer and copy the ISO to it. You can copy as many ISO files as you want.

Then when you boot from the Ventoy USB drive it gives you a menu and ask you what ISO you want to boot from. Its super convenient.

I wish I knew about Ventoy years ago

I wish I knew about this years ago. I have made countless bootable USB drives over the years for work and for play. Ventoy takes the process and makes it so simple. This is going to be my standard going forward.

One of the best parts is now that is one less reason to have to boot into Windows. I’m 90% Linux now but with the Windows 10 end of life coming in 2025 my goal is to make that 100%.

What do you think?

Have use used Ventoy or do you know of something even better? Let us know in the comments below!
