I’m sad to say a lot of otherwise good games have been tainted with DEI and Wokeism. But maybe that will turn around now. One of of first things President Trump did was direct all federal DEI staff to be put on leave. Also in his Inauguration speech he said “As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female”.
After that a lot of companies are following in step including meta and Amazon who has rolled back their DEI programs. That’s something I never expected to see.
We should be judged by our merit and character and not the color of our skin or our gender. But these DEI programs do the opposite.
So the question I have is will the video game industry also follow along?
Will video game stop being woke?
I know of at least one publisher CI Games who has said “Our games will always be developed to maximize player enjoyment” and “We will not be integrating any social or political agencies into these experiences going forward having observed the high risk this can present.”
That seems reasonable to me. But if you look at video game news sites and in their comments you can see the woke mob is screaming and convulsing over the news.
It might take some time.
Developing the average AAA video game takes years. So it might be a while before we know for sure. But I think we could see smaller changes soon. Simple art work or dialog could be changed easy. Bigger stuff will take a while and probably will not happen with any games currently out.
I hope we can go back to a time were we just made games and had fun without all the politics. I think most of us don’t want all this junk shoved in our face when we set down to play games. And as a Christian and a father I don’t want it in my house. I think a lot of people agree because a lot of woke games have not sold well.
Never let your guard down.
Unfortunately I don’t think it will go away all together. Their are delusional people in the game industry who can’t tell you how many genders there are or how to define a woman. They will push for this woke stuff forever. From this point forward we will always have to watch out for that stuff slipping into our games. But maybe now that the political pressure is off more game developers will have the courage to stand up and say no thanks to DEI and Wokeism.
Vote with your wallet
I bought some by mistake. Like Baldur’s Gate 3 when someone at work suggested it to me. But I have learned and now I do a lot of research before I spend any money. I always say vote with your wallet. If your complaining about something but still buy it then why should the company care?
