I followed the development and then played Warhammer online for a while when it came out and I remember having fun there. I also remember when I heard the news that it was shutting down on December 18th, 2013.
It’s always sad seeing games get shut down. I feel like games are a part of our history and they can get lost to time. Never to be enjoyed by anyone ever again.
But Warhammer Online Lives On
I found today from Eurogamer that Warhammer Online is still running on a private server. It always amazes me how fans can keep something as complex as an MMO alive after the developer has abandoned it. This private server is called Return of Reckoning and it’s free to play on.
But that’s not the reason I made the post. What really amazed me is how they have kept developing the game. On September 18th, 2021 the Return of Reckoning team released two capital cities that were cut from the original game. They also plan to add new city siege systems and new zones and dungeons.

I just want to say congratulations to the Return of Reckoning team and thank them for preserving a game that could have been lost to us forever.
