I don’t drink or party. For me gaming is a way to relax after a long week of work. I get the kid in bed and spend some time with the wife. Then I can load up a computer game and lose myself in the game world for a while and unwind.
It’s getting harder to avoid the woke
It’s getting harder to avoid the woke. We play games for escapism and to relax. We don’t want real world politics and drama in our games.
But a few years ago I noticed little woke things starting to pop up in games. It was not much at first and was easy to ignore. But games today are pushing the woke agenda harder and harder to the point it can’t be overlooked anymore. I guess this is another reason not to preorder games. Because you don’t know what kind of stuff will be in them ahead of time.
I will use two recent games as my examples.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Is woke
I did not know much about Baldur’s Gate but after a dozen people suggested I try it I decided to buy it. My fault for not doing my research.
The first thing I noticed was there was an option to turn NSFW content off. That should have been a red flag but I thought “hey at least there is a switch to turn it off.” So I turned it off and continued.
It was not long into the game when I was confronted with a male NPC hitting on my male character. It felt yucky and ruined the immersion. But I remember thinking ok I turned them down maybe it won’t come back up.
Well I was wrong. The game seems to be constantly trying to funnel you into dialog for the player to have gay sex with a NPC. This game has the most horny NPC’s I have ever seen. I remind you I have the NSFW filter on but it doesn’t matter. These dialog options come up without even trying. Even with a NPC that supposedly dislikes me.
It makes me wonder how much worse it would be if I did not turn on that filter. It also seems forced in considering whats going on in the story of the game. It’s like the developers did not have a good way to include it so they just shoved in sex invitations everywhere.
Starfield is Woke
I did do some research on Starfield and decided not to get it. At least not yet until I learn more. So I can’t give you a first hand account but I will link to videos of people who can. It’s sad because I had high hopes for this game. Oh well back to Empyrion for when I’m craving a space game.
Update 9/14/2023 – A friend from an old job sent me a gift copy of Starfield on Steam. So I guess I will be trying it out after all. I will probably steam it on Rumble at some point if you want to check that out.

Their trying to normalize woke
As you can see from my Baldur’s Gate examples and the videos about Starfield there is a big push to normalize this junk and force it onto us.
I’m not expecting this to get any better. Maybe if enough gamers stop buying it would slowdown or stop. I’m hoping. But i’m not sure the average gamer will do anything beyond complaining on the internet. You have to vote with your wallet if you want to see change.
At the very least don’t pay full price. Wait for a deep sale. That still cuts into their profit and can send a message.
